The value of pyrolysis does not end with the physical product. A key part of the return lies in certification and the associated environmental credits. ISCC PLUS certification is one of the most recognised ways to prove the traceability and sustainability of the output and, with it, to monetise it better.

What is ISCC PLUS certification

ISCC PLUS is an international certification scheme that proves the sustainability and traceability of circular and bio-based materials across the whole value chain. In the case of pyrolysis, it allows you to certify that the oil obtained comes from plastic waste and has been managed following sustainability criteria.

The mass balance approach

ISCC PLUS uses the mass balance method, which makes it possible to attribute recycled or circular content to the final products in a traceable, auditable way. This is what enables a waste-derived feedstock to be sold as certified circular content, with a higher market value.

From traceability to environmental credits

Having a certified output opens the door to various monetisable environmental credits and to a stronger position in ESG reporting. Waste stops being just an avoided cost: it becomes a revenue source and a demonstrable sustainability asset.

  • Higher product value: certified circular content sells at a premium.
  • Access to demanding markets: many industrial customers require certified materials.
  • Solid ESG narrative: real traceability for corporate reporting.

How Nantek integrates it

At Nantek, the management of certification and environmental credits is part of the complete model, alongside engineering, financing and the guaranteed offtake of the product. We aim for each plant not only to recover the waste, but to maximise the monetisable value of its output.
